Nurturing Our Bodies and Minds With Great Food

At Happy Feet Childcare Papamoa we believe successful learning and development are linked to healthy nutrition. When we address our body’s needs, we are also feeding our brains. We fuel up with good food and we move our bodies, this means we reap some great benefits with simple practices you can utilise at home as well!

Balance Is Key

At our childcare centre in Papamoa we are really fortunate to have a chef preparing food every day in our wonderful kitchen. We concentrate on producing balanced meals that include fresh fruit and vegetables, some healthy grains, dairy, and good proteins. We also include some treats, and we think it’s great to get your tamariki involved with preparation and service. We also take into account any allergies, intolerances – or strong preferences!

Delicious Lessons

There are lots of lessons to be learned in the kitchen, and daycare kids are old enough to be involved at home when you are making meals. Teaching your little one to be in the kitchen space in safe ways is really important and measuring out some things for a yummy cake is a perfect time to engage with some arithmetic. There are science lessons too, where we can teach tamariki about the changes that occur with ingredients when we combine them – try milk and baking soda for some fizzy fun!

Maths And Science Can Be A Treat!

Learning dexterity is easy when there is a reward that might be iced at the end, and you can encourage your childcare kid to scoop up the flour, measure out the sugar and pour in the milk when you are baking. At Happy Feet childcare centre Papamoa, we know that cracking the eggs into the bowl is an all-time favourite, and learning and practicing all these skills build confidence.

Aiming For Breakfast In Bed

Although dinner time can be a little stressful after a busy day, if you can muster a bit of patience to get your preschooler up on a stool to help out, down the line you may just end up with breakfast in bed! A great task for little fingers is washing lettuce and it’s fun to mix and roll dough for a pizza or pie. Happy Feet Papamoa runs a seasonal rotation of simple nutritious meals and our chef is happy to share some recipes with you that get a great response at our daycare table.
